DEBBIE COURCHENE

Boozhoo! My name is Debbie Courchene and I am from Sagkeeng First Nation.  I am a Mother and Kookoo (Grandmother), I sit on the Elders Council at the TBH. I am pleased to introduce myself to everyone. My family has been volunteering at the Circle of Life Thunderbird House for the past 4 years. It has be20180419_210123en challenging at times, fun at times, and sacred at times. I am honored to sit on the council and volunteer and give voice to the needs of the community I live in. I feel it is important to give back to the people.  Our way of life and our culture is such an important piece in our healing and for those who cannot access ceremonies outside the city, the TBH  is a place where our urban Indigenous people can go to find their traditions, ceremonies, and well-being.  Having the TBH is a doorway for maintaining the teachings and ensuring our Indigenous people have access to the teachings and red road way of life.

Miigwetch Respectfully,

Debbie Courchene
